T&GUCCI

T&GUCCI

T&GUCCI emerged in 2023 in Taxco, one of the epicenters of artisanal jewelry in Mexico, inspired by the Saturday street market (tianguis) and the wide diversity of objects circulating there: from anonymous pieces to pirate versions of well-known brands—none of them lacking ingenuity or quality.

Far from falling into judgment or folklorism, T&GUCCI proposes to understand the tianguis and piracy as fertile territories for creation, symbolic exchange, and artistic experimentation.

The first edition in Taxco, Guerrero, brought together the collective project. Now, T&GUCCI arrives in Mexico City to continue exploring—through satire and parody—the tensions between the tianguis, piracy, and contemporary jewelry. The exhibition will be presented from October 10 to 23 at Estudio Mezquite (República de Cuba 41, Historic Center, CDMX).

A gaze from Mexico City

In this second edition, the project shifts to the urban capital context to deepen the practices of appropriation, copying, and re-signification. Here, the tianguis is understood not only as a space of material exchange, but also as a place where iconic, affective, and collective meanings are generated.

The jewel as a central object

At the heart of the project is the jewel as an expanded object: ranging from a bearer of memory and symbolic value to a playful, experimental artifact. In T&GUCCI, the jewel functions as a kaleidoscope that reflects materials, techniques, and discourses, always traversed by irony and creative parody.

A collective project

T&GUCCI brings together 29 artists, designers, and creators who, from their own languages, stretch the very notions of contemporary jewelry. Each proposal responds to the invitation to work within the tianguis/piracy context through free interpretation, generating a plural mosaic that questions the boundaries between original and copy, luxury and piracy, art and commodity.
