The name obsidian comes from the Latin " obsidianus lapis " (obsius stone) Roman who discovered it in Ethiopia. It was used by hunter gatherers in the archaic period, to make cutting tools and spearheads . In pre-Hispanic cultures, the use of obsidian was of enormous importance, both in economic, political and religious activities, being a symbol of very high ritual content . They made spectacular finely carved pieces and it was an essential element in all kinds of offerings. Projectile points, ceremonial knives, spears, polished and carved figurines, vessels, made, perforators, pectorals, mirrors, knives and other instruments made, above all, by Teotihuacan artisans but also from Texcoco and Tenochtitlan.
On this occasion, the lapidary master Victor Campos Oliva (first generation of lapidaries from Taller de Obsidiana ) will share his knowledge to create obsidian arrowheads.The workshop is run by beehive mexico
