COCOA HEART
COCOA HEART
Portable sculptural object.
Inspired by cacao, an ancestral food and currency for the peoples of Abya Yala .
The cacao tree, which originally inhabits the Amazon rainforest , is, according to some researchers, a forest that was planted, managed, and used by the inhabitants of the entire tropical zone.
"The Mayan Forest Garden: Eight Millennia of Sustainable Tropical Forest Cultivation," written by Rhonald Nigh and Anabel Ford, is a book that tells this story. I came across it a few years ago and was fascinated.
From there I learned that a harmonious relationship between [something] did exist and is possible. Human settlements, nature, and obtaining the things necessary to sustain life; even though today it may seem impossible to us.
It is precisely in that Utopia that I find inspiration to create this work.
A cacao heart from which ethereal, iridescent flames emanate, embracing its wearer with the sweetness of cacao and the magic of obsidian. Surrounded by fluid, filigree forms that evoke water, the element that sustains all life.
A mixture of cocoa pod, seeds, rooster feathers, natural resins, and .999 silver filigree. and obsidian beads.
Unique piece.
