Descripción de la obra:
Collar que evoca las formas del cuerpo de un murciélago construido con simetría axial en la técnica de filigrana. La cara está tallada en obsidiana dorada y el centro del cuerpo granate,
los segmentos del collar, evocan las pencas del maguey.
Elegí el tema del murciélago y el maguey por la relación simbiótica que mantienen ambas especies, en la actualidad con el auge en la producción de tequila, mezcal, aguamiel, pulque y en la cocina para la barbacoa los mixiotes y los chinicuiles, el campo mexicano destina grandes áreas a su siembra y aprovechamiento, sin embargo, su aprovechamiento evita que las plantas lleguen a su madurez y floración.
El quiote debe ser capado para poder producir el aguamiel o los destilados, lo que impide que la planta florezca y que ésta a su vez, sea polinizada por los murciélagos, polillas y colibríes, para que después las flores, generen las semillas que aseguran la siguiente generación de magueyes.
Ser conscientes de la belleza que existe en el vínculo simbiótico y mutualista entre las especies de flora y fauna silvestres y endémicas de nuestro país es el primer paso para asegurar su trascendencia y mantenimiento.
Esta pieza de orfebrería es un homenaje a la armonía de la naturaleza y una invitación a la reflexión sobre cómo es que nuestras acciones como humanos inciden en el mundo.
La pieza se diseñó, enel marco del Primer diplomado de Filigrana Mexicana Impartido en el Centro de las Artes de San Agustin, Oaxaca del que formé parte como estudiante durante un trimestre; fue terminada con la finalidad de ser presentada a concurso en el Premio Nacional de Arte Popular. Actualmente está exhibida en la casa de las Artesanías en Michoacan.

This necklace, titled Tzinacantan, is a unique piece that evokes the form of a bat, crafted with axial symmetry using traditional filigree techniques. The bat's face is intricately carved from golden obsidian, while a garnet cabochon forms the center of its body. The necklace segments are designed to resemble the leaves of the agave plant.
The inspiration behind this piece comes from the symbiotic relationship between bats and agave plants. With the rising demand for tequila, mezcal, aguamiel, pulque, and the use of agave in traditional Mexican cuisine for dishes like barbacoa, mixiotes, and chinicuiles, vast areas of Mexican farmland are now dedicated to agave cultivation. However, harvesting agave before it reaches maturity prevents the plant from flowering. The stalk (quiote) must be cut to produce aguamiel or distilled spirits, which stops the plant from blooming and being pollinated by bats, moths, and hummingbirds, thereby reducing the production of seeds needed for the next generation of agave.
This piece aims to raise awareness of the delicate, mutualistic bond between these native species of flora and fauna. Understanding the beauty of this relationship is the first step towards ensuring their preservation.
This jewelry piece is a tribute to the harmony of nature and an invitation to reflect on the impact of human actions on our environment.* It was designed during the First Diploma in Mexican Filigree at the Centro de las Artes de San Agustín, Oaxaca, where I was a student for one term. The necklace was completed to be presented in the National Folk Art Award competition and is currently exhibited at the Casa de las Artesanías in Michoacán.
This is a contemporary Mexican filigree piece made of pure silver (.999) with stone carving by Gabriela Garcia Mariscal, a designer, lapidary artist, and goldsmith.
